Companies 1 and 3 of the Shelton Fire Department were dispatched to Route 8 northbound between exits 12 and 13 for a single-vehicle accident. Fire units responding were advised by the Shelton Fire Dispatcher that an occupant had been ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle was possibly on fire. Upon the arrival of the first fire unit, it was confirmed that the occupant had been ejected and the vehicle was actively smoking, but not on fire. Echo Hose EMS transported the sole occupant to a local trauma facility with serious injuries. Squad 1, Engine 2, Engine 32, Cars 5, and 6 operated under the command of Assistant Chief Joe Constantino.
