At around 7:15 am, companies 1 and 3 of the Shelton Fire Department were requested to respond to RT 8 southbound in the area of exit 13 for the motor vehicle accident. Upon the arrival of the FD, it was determined that a pregnant female operator was heavily pinned inside a vehicle that came to rest off of the roadway. Crews from Squad 1 and Rescue 30 stabilized the vehicle prior to conducting a roof and door removal to free the patient. As members were extricating the trapped operator, 2 pediatric patients were packaged and transported to a local trauma facility by Echo Hose Ambulance. Once the patient was removed, she was placed in the care of Storm Ambulance which transported the patient to a local hospital for evaluation. Approximate 12 members with Squad 1, Rescue 30, and Utility 4 operated under the command of Assistant Chief Bob Finta. Derby Fire Chief David Lenart was operations.
