While Members were operating at this fire, Companies 1, 3, 4, and 5 were dispatched to an address on Meadowlark Drive for flames coming from the chimney. As crews arrived, no fire was visible however an abnormal amount of smoke was visible. As crews entered the occupied home, a moderate smoke condition was found along with an active fire in the fireplace. Crews extinguished the fire and removed the material from the firebox. Additional members proceeded to the roof where they determined the chimney was clogged. Crews used specialized tools to dislodge the excessive creosote to make the invert safe. Once the smoke was ventilated and metered for CO, the property was turned over to the homeowner as the home is habitable. No injuries occurred during operations. Engines 52, 42, Ladder 51, Rescue 45, and Utility 31 operated under the Command of Assistant Chief Nick Verdicchio. The Derby Fire Department provided station coverage at the Echo Hose H&L Co.1 in the event any additional emergencies arose.
