At 4:06 a.m. this morning companies 1, 4 & 5 were dispatched for the reported water rescue in the area of Indian Wells state park. Initial reports stated there was a possible overturned boat with 6+ people in the water. Boats from companies 1 & 4 were deployed but not easily. Due to current and past weather temperatures the water surrounding the boat launches was frozen. Firemen wearing cold water suits had to enter the water and break apart the ice to gain access for the boats. Once in the water, crews were able to locate 1 patient who was still alive. Due to a language barrier it was still unclear as to what happened and how many people were in the water. In the end, it was determined that the 1 patient found was the only victim and that person had fallen into the water. Due to the initial reports a large scale operation had been activated with help from many surrounding towns but fortunately there were no other people to look for. A great job was done by all.
