At 5:06 pm, the Shelton Fire/Police Dispatch received several calls reporting a structure fire on Mica Court. As the first unit arrived 2 minutes after dispatch, (Deputy Chief) a large body of fire was reported from the middle unit of a 3-unit condo complex. D/C Wilson reported there was an immediate fire exposure issue with both end units. Within minutes, the fire had extended through the attic of both adjoining units. All occupants were able to successfully evacuate the 3 units prior to the arrival of FD. As apparatus arrived, they were given assignments and locations of hydrants for water supply. Once apparatus and manpower were established, a quick exterior fire attack was made on the main fire unit and crews entered the end units to stop the fire spread. Additional crews were assigned to roof operations and holes were placed in the roof to stop the spread of fire in the attic. After approximately 1 hour, all visible fire was extinguished. In total, approximately 5 attack lines and 1 aerial monitor were used to suppress the fire. Multiple crews operated for an extended period of time extinguishing hotspots and opening void spaces to look for hidden pockets of fire. The Red Cross was requested to respond to assist with relocating all 3 families. The fire was placed under control at 6:15 pm. Engines 2, 35, 24, 42, Truck 3, Ladder 51, Rescue 45, Rehab 48, Fire Police, Cars 4 and 5 operated under the Command of Deputy Chief Paul Wilson. Echo Hose EMS was on the scene in the event someone was injured. Engine 13 from the Derby FD assisted on the scene as an additional Derby engine covered the Downtown area as Monroe, Nichols (Trumbull) Stratford, and Ansonia FDs provided station coverage for the City of Shelton. SFD units will remain on the scene throughout the night in the event of a rekindle. The Shelton Fire Marshal’s Office as well as the CT State Fire Marshal’s Office is on the scene conducting the cause and origin. There were no injuries to civilians or Firefighters during this incident.
