On 6/28/12 at about 2300 hrs, Shelton Fire Companies 3, 1, & 5 were initially dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Sassafras Diner located in a stipmall at 13 Huntington Plaza. Huntington fire unts arrived first with heavy smoke and fire showing. Fire company #4 was added to the assignment and responded to the scnene as well. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack extinguishing the fire in about 20 – 30 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene to assist with ventilation and overhaul. There was an ansul system in the kitchen area but it was unable to hold the fire in check. Damage was mostly contained to the diner with only a small amount of smoke and water damage the the stores ajoining it.
