At around 5:20 p.m. Companies 1, 4 & 5 were dispatched to 593 Howe Ave for the confirmed working structure fire. Ladder 33 from Co. 3 and Engine 11 from Derby were special called as well. Co.1 Firefighter Chris Jones was around the corner and spotted the fire. He immediately called it in and ran up to the home to better evaluate the situation. Tower 7 arrived minutes later, stretched a line and made entry to the home. Engine 2 arrived right after and established a water supply. While making their way to the fire room, Tower 7’s crew came upon an unconscious victim. They immediately dropped their hose line, grabbed the victim and began removal. They were met at the door by Engine 2’s crew who assisted. The victim was transported by Echo Hose Ambulance – The condition of the victim is unknown at this time. Crews were being told there may be someone else in the structure, so they immediately got back in and continued to search while others extinguished the fire. Thankfully, nobody else was found. Crews from Shelton & Derby began overhauling the structure and wetting down hot spots. The scene was turned over to the fire marshal’s office and all units returned shortly after cleaning up their equipment.
